New instrument will foster ground-breaking innovation

Newsletter Editorial, February 2020

In January, we proudly initiated the BII Faculty program. An instrument that is rarely seen in the world of life science entrepreneurship. With inspiration from the Wyss Institute in Boston, BII is bringing together researchers that are both top-level scientists and experienced entrepreneurs to build the start-ups of tomorrow at BII’s facilities in Copenhagen.

Through a strategic approach, we have selected topics that can address some of the societal grand challenges, such as increasing health care costs, an aging population and increasing greenhouse gas emissions.

With this new instrument, BII will take a more active role in identifying and forming projects that can lead to spin-outs and new solutions. I believe this will contribute to BII becoming a world-leading incubator and that the interdisciplinary activities will foster ground-breaking innovation.

I am proud to welcome the first two internationally leading scientists and entrepreneurs as members of the BII Faculty. Professor Morten Sommer and Professor Jay Keasling.
